Everybody's life has a soundtrack
Posted on 27th September 2011So its 20 years since Nirvana released Nevermind – that makes me feel REALLY old.
1991/2 were great years for music and coincided with the years when I was leaving school and going to sixth form – fresh in the world, revelling in the fact I didn’t have to go to school every day, didn’t have to wear a uniform and had crudely faked my ID so I was ready to rock…
This period was not only pivotal in my life but the release of albums like Nevermind changed the face of the music scene, it brought Garage rock and the Seattle Grunge scene to the forefront of the music industry and made punk rock fashionable again, it washed away the bubblegum pop and materialism of the 80’s and made anti fashion fashionable.
I have vivid memories of hanging out in a recording studio owned by our friends Dad in our plaid shirts, combats and Doctor Martins / German Para boots – feeling that we were united in being the 90’s youth, Generation X, basking in grunge and trash rock and writing morose poetry.
But Nevermind Nirvana lets not forget the other key albums that were released over that period:
Metallica – The Black Album
Guns n’ Roses – Use Your Illusion 1 & 2
Pearl Jam – 10
Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Faith No More Angel Dust
All played a very important role in the soundtrack of my life.
Which albums / songs are most prominent in the soundtrack of yours?
